Labour Market Prognosis for 2010

The Institute for Economic and Enterprise Research - in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, with the Public Employment Service (ÁFSZ), and with the county chambers of commerce and industry - conducted a research on the expected demand of labor and short-term business expectations of 7151 enterprises. The results are representative in terms of the distibution of the size enterprises and the economic sector they belong to.

In the research, we also took into consideration the business situation of enterprises, their anticipations for the future, their applied strategies they use to alleviate the negative effects of the recession, their expected demand for labour in 2010, and their difficulties in recruting. Also, our analysis concentrated on the different employment forms and their effects on the enterprises. Our results cover the last four years.

According to the conjuncture indicators, the recession has already touched its bottom and recent analyses already show the signs of recovery. General tendency shows that recession hit especially the well-performing sectors of economy and as such accelerated equalization – the significant relapse of developed regions – in 2009.

Our study shows that 86% of enterprises took some efforts to deal with the effects of the recession, in most cases they reduced expenditures or tried to stabilize their market positions. Another result of the recession is, however, that recruiting became easier: while in 2008 14% of the enterprised found difficult to recruit staff, this number dropped by 2009 to 5%.
